Mykola Tomenko, the Deputy Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine expressed concernment regarding the preparation for the 65th anniversary of Great Victory in Ukraine.
"The Dignitaries now are mostly occupied with the defining of the quantity of Russian military men or Soviet flags are supposed to be involved into the military parade in Kyiv and regional centers or how many monuments to Stalin are supposed to be built", M. Tomenko emphasised. Unfortunately, the politician is convinced, the state attention first of all is supposed to be paid to the veterans. "There is a lack of the necessary attention to our heroes. Instead one may notice speculations and abuse of veteran theme", he emphasised. As an example of such abuse M. Tomenko named the fact that the Government scrutinizes the issue on expropriation from the state property regional hospital for Great Patriotic War veterans in Cherkasy region, "in order to use the land in commercial purposes, I suppose."
M. Tomenko stated that it is necessary to make everything possible for the 65th anniversary became an occasion for the support of Ukrainian veterans and Great Patriotic War participants but not a matter to show once again their loyalty to Russian power. "Ukrainian dignitaries should honour our heroes but do no continue looking for them abroad", M. Tomenko concluded.
